So, i have an aol account and everyday i sign in to check my mail…and i always look at the 5 top stories that they display when you first log on to aol.com, and today one of the stories i saw caught my eye.  It was a story about Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon’s divorce.  This is what the story said….

Ryan Phillippe reveals in a new interview just how distraught he was after his split from Reese Witherspoon.“After the divorce, I was a physical wreck. I wanted to die,” he says in the new issue of the U.K. publication Man About Town (via US). “I was ready to kill myself. I was not taking care of myself at all. I would wake up and cry and vomit.”

However, the story doesn’t not mention why the couple got a divorce but only give sympathy to Ryan.  But, we all know why they split, because Ryan cheated on Reese with some D list actress. What really ticks me off is that why sympathize over the one who is in the wrong instead of focusing on all of the accomplishments of Reese during all of the mess she was going through.  She is an amazing actress and her side of the story is what needs to be talked about, not his.  Its perfectly normal for him to be acting like that becuase he has to live with the guilt of cheating on his wife, and he knows what he did was wrong, so theres nothing new about that situation. But what i think its amazing his how Reese as completely bounced back from the whole thing and i think she’s at the highlight of her career right now and she looks amazing too! she is one of my favorite actresses and she deserves more credit than she deserves. I dont understand how her ex husband can make headlines but all of her accomplishments dont. I dont know, its just another one of those little things i notice now that i’ve been in this class! Ugg…the media i swear!

After reading this story called “what happens when violence knocks and politeness answers?”, it really made me think about what i would i do if i were to be in that same situation.  First of all, I know that if i dont know who is at the door, i dont answer it…which can make a huge difference b/c you never know who is gonna be at the door these days…b/c there are some crazy and sick people in this world.  Also, i think i would have handled the situation differently too.  If for some reason, the guy did manage to come into my house, i deffinitely wouldn’t let him get away with what he was doing without a fight.  I guess that’s just my way of showing respect for myself and my body.  Im not just going to let some random guy rape me, and enjoy it, he’s going to be suffering just as much as me.  I would do everything in my power to try to stop him from getting the pleasure that he is after. 

 The girl in this story was really starting to make me mad about 2 sentences into the story….I’m sorry but if some boy was jabbing me with a pencil every 5 seconds, ill be damned if he doesn’t get jabbed back.  There’s no way i would let someone do that to me.  It obviously screwed up her mind mentally, and really stayed with her for the rest of her life.  Sometimes in life you just HAVE to be rude to some people or they won’t leave you alone.  They’ll get that power over you that they’ve been craving for.  I’m generally a nice person, but if someone makes me mad, they pretty much know it.  I can’t stand to let someone walk all over me without having anything to say.  Thats just human nature to me i guess, and i think thats how everyone should be.  Don’t let other people get you down and ruin your day. 

The fact that this woman in the story didn’t think that her own rapist deserved more than 35 years in jail is just crazy to me.  I would be trying to put that man away for the rest of his life if something like that happened to me, i wouldn’t let them get away  with it at all.  Rape is a very serious thing and can really ruin someones life, i just dont understand how the woman in the story didnt see that at the time.  I realize that it did effect her in life later on, but it only made her more afraid of the fact that something could happen to her instead of knowing that she did everything she could to do something about it and keep on living her life normally instead of in fear.

Since we did our presentations about women in history, i recently heard a song that made me think of what we were doing in class.  Its a new song by a country singer name Hilary Scott.  I thought i would post the lyrics and the name of the song in case anyone wanted to listen to it.

So basically, what Hillary Scott is trying to say is that she’s not going to just go through life not accomplishing anything, she’s going to do something with her life and make a difference, and this song reminds me of all of the women we did our presentations on because they all made a difference in this world, they all did something that made us remember them.

The thought of someone else deciding for me if i can or cannot have a child is really quite disturbing.  In my opinion, i believe that everyone has the right to do to their bodies however they please.  I beleive that a women’s body is a very precious symbol in the world, and it shouldn’t be treated as an object that can be told what to do by someone who doesnt even own it.  I know that when i get ready to have children, that i don’t want anyone, the government, a doctor, anyone, telling me what i can do with my own body.  However, i do believe that if you are old enough to have sex, then you are old enough to have a baby.  I dont it’s right to kill a baby just because you dont want it.  That is when i find abortion wrong, but if you’re having sex and something happens that isn’t suppose to, and you know that you’re not ready to have a baby, then i find abortion okay.  It is also okay, in my opinion, when a girl is raped, and those who say that abortion isn’t right ever, please put yourself in that situation.  Would you honestly say that you would have the baby of the man who brutally raped you and tortured you?  I dont think so.  My beliefs on this topic come from no other sources.  This is what i believe and i didnt get my ideas from anyone else, or anything else.  Women should have the right to decide if they want to have a child or not, and taking it away would just make the world a worse place, b/c women are going to get an abortion whether the government says to or not.  That’s just the way it goes.  It’s like smoking marijuana, everyone knows it’s illegal, but many people still choose to do it…i dont know why, but they do.  I don’t think it is something that as a nation we can stop.  I think it’s going to continue on forever, and the only person that can stop it from happening is the person doing it.

This video kind of goes with what we were talking about in class today.  It’s an episode from the Tyra Banks show, and there are young girls, like really young girls who think they’re fat, and not pretty enough.

 The image that our world has today on what it means to be pretty or skinny, in my opinion, is out of control.  It’s crazy that these young girls are worrying about these things so early on.  Im pretty sure that when i was 5, i was in drill team, dance, and riding motorcyles and four wheelers with my brothers.  I could have cared less about what i looked like.  These girls are getting these ideas from everyday television.  One of my favorite shows, Americas Next Top Model is probably the biggest promoters to telling young women how they should look, but then again, the show is aimed at an older generation.  You have to be at least 18 to even be on the show.  So, these young girls who are getting the wrong perceptions of themselves are watching shows that aren’t even aimed at their age group.  these girls are already acting like many older women, and teenagers do by not only seeing themselves as not good enough,  but watching shows that they aren’t even old enough to be watching.  At times, i feel that tyra banks is being a hypocrite for saying that it’s ok not to be skinny, b/c she isnt, but her show promotes skinniness.  She always says on her show that a plus size model can win, but it’s been 8 cycles, and now 9, and there hasnt’ been a plus size model yet.  I tried to find one episode that i watched of her show where a russian model was on there, and she weighed 85 pounds and said she wanted to lose more weight.  And that 85 pound women told another girl who weighed maybe 160 pounds that she was fat! it was the most revolting thing i had ever seen, b/c the women who was 85 pounds said she looked healthy, when that girl had no curves on her body! We are women, we have child bearing hips, and we have breasts, and it just disgusts me that this women has no intent to respect her body enough and keep it healthy. 

 So, as for what we were saying in class..i think that society is destroying peoples lives, but im not sure if they know that they are doing it or not.  They put this label on what perfection is, and tell women that they are suppose to be that way, and it is not only affecting women, but even 5 year olds! it’s crazy!

My advice: If you want to fix your hair, fix your hair. If you want to eat chocolate every night for dinner, eat chocolate every  night for dinner.  If you want to wear baggy or slutty clothes, wear baggy or slutty clothes.  Just respect yourself enough so that other people will. 

The movie touch guise that we watched in class was a lot more interesting than i thought it was going to be.  I thought it was just going to say that guy think they’re smarter, stronger, and better than women all together, but the movie really broke it down and showed how and why men are like that. I think that it’s crazy that boys start learning to be manly at such a young age, the more i think about it, the more i realize how much that it true.  This class has made me notice certain things about people, movies, and commercials that i normally wouldn’t have noticed.  I think more about phrases or saying aimed toward women, but back to the movie…I think it was a really good movie, at least from what i saw..however, i think it would be more helpful if more guys watched it so they could see how they really act, b/c im sure most guys dont even noticed they act that way.  It really went into depth about the way guys think, and just how society is so used to the male being the dominant person.  But what really caught my attention was that most people are so used to guys committing rape, that they are like “oh, that happens everyday” but as soon as a woman committs a crime like that, all hell breaks loose! I dont know, just some things about this society today just get on my nerves.

Since this is my first blog, I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out what i would talk about.  I finally decided that I was going to talk about my thoughts and opinions on lesbians and gays.  Personally, I really don’t care what other people do.  It’s none of my business, and it’s no one else’s business but the people in the relationshiop.  I believe that people should have the freedom to express themselves however they choose.  As long as I’m not being harmed or in danger, then i don’t have a problem.  This topic happend to be a big topic in class, and we said that most feminists are considered to be “lesbians” or “gays”,which is not always the case.  I feel that people make these assumptions without actually knowing the truth.  It’s kind of like making the assumption that Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends are all sluts, but you don’t know them, so it’s not fair to them to call them that.  

 My dad is a Democrat and i was raised in more of a liberal type environment, but my mom is conservative.  The conflict between my parents siding with two different parties is that it causes me to be kind of stuck in the middle.  I’m not real sure what my beliefs on Politics are, but i find my dads beliefs to be more appealing to me.  I agree with most of the things he says.  He hates when people say that “Mexicans” need to stop stealing our jobs, when in reality, they need jobs too.  It’s not their fault they were born with that ethnicity.   He also believes that if you want to be gay or lesbian, then you should be able to.  People don’t need other people telling them how to live their lives.  My mom, however, says that the bible says that men aren’t suppose to be with men, and women aren’t suppose to be with women.  Most of my opinions come from listening to my dad, i just hope one day i can make my own accusations about things, instead of having to choose between my parents.
